Bae Doona in love with her love in 'Cloud Atlas'

South Korean Bae Doona never dreamed of starring in western film. When she was offered an audition for a hefty role in "cloud atlas" a new film co-directed by the wachowski siblings, best known for "the Matrix" series, and their close friend, German director Tom Tykwer, she could not believe her ears. Bae showed her strong affection for the role of Sonmi.

Oxford Union will get some style

Psy is set to lecture at the Oxford Union, one of the world’s renowned debating societies, on Nov. 7 as one of the 30 guests picked each year.

He will be the Union’s second Korean guest in its 190-year history. The first was former Samsung Electronics President Hwang Chang-gyu.

Apparently, the request to have Psy talk about his music and the phenomenal success of “Gangnam Style” was the idea of John Lee, the club’s president.

Other speakers at the Union have included Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, John McCain and Ronald Reagan. While in England, Psy also will appear on BBC programs.

Psy, who is currently in the United States after a short stint in Australia last week, will depart for Paris on Nov. 4 and make his way to London before moving on to Frankfurt and other European cities. And although he is busy promoting himself across the globe, Psy hasn’t forgotten his loyal supporters in Asia. Mnet announced yesterday that the singer will make an appearance at the 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Hong Kong this year.

Psy repays video favor to Hyun-a

K-pop fans were thrilled when they found out yesterday that Hyun-a’s new music video “Ice Cream” has a cameo by none other than Psy.

It seems that the “Gangnam Style” singer was returning a favor. The 4Minute member appeared in his hit video three months ago.

In the video uploaded yesterday and rated 15+, Psy can be seen looking at an unattended ice cream van, climbing in and helping himself as Hyun-a appears, looking less than thrilled at the intruder.

A heated exchange between the two, with Hyun-a yelling at Psy, has been described as one of the highlights of the video by fans.

After Psy’s appearance, the clip takes on a new angle as the sexy idol singer exhibits some saucy moves, complete with a bubble bath scene.

The song is doing extremely well on music charts since being released Sunday in the EP titled “Melting.”

Leading up to its release, the teaser clip for the album’s title track garnered more than three million views in just three days.

TVXQ to set out on world tour

After releasing its new album “Catch Me” on Sept. 24, K-pop duo TVXQ will set out on its first world tour.

Starting in Seoul in November, the band will make its way to China, Thailand and other nations around the world as part of its “TVXQ! Live World Tour ‘Catch Me.’” The list of concert venues have yet to be announced.

The Korean leg of the tour will kick off on Nov. 17 at Seoul Olympic Park and is the group’s first concert in its native land since 2009. Since then, three members have left the group and the two remaining members are said to be excited about the prospect of its first concert in more than three years.

This year, the band performed for Japanese fans on its “Tone 2012” tour.
More than 555,000 fans attended the concerts by the Hallyu boy group.

G-Dragon says EP not fit for minors

Again, in an unusual move, G-Dragon’s agency YG Entertainment has given the singer’s new album a rating of 19 years and above.

On Wednesday, the agency said it decided to follow suit from the earlier single “That XX” because “the songs will no doubt be censored by the Commission on Youth Protection.”

YG said songs on the upcoming album “One of a Kind” are explicit because “those words contain the essence of the songs, true to its form.” The single “That XX” was released Aug. 31. Despite the age ban, the single became the top song on various music charts and download Web sites from the day of release.

New regulations now require age ratings, and entertainment agencies have been quick to criticize the government for moving too slowly on decisions regarding age appropriateness.

Meanwhile, another song contained on the new album, “Missing You,” is generating much buzz after a video of G-Dragon talking about the tune surfaced online just days ago.

Nelly Furtado raves about Psy video

Pop star Nelly Furtado took some time to rave about K-pop and Psy’s “Gangnam Style” at a press conference for her new album in Singapore.

While promoting “The Spirit Indestructible” on Friday, Furtado said that just days ago she enjoyed watching “this amazing K-pop video.” 

The 33-year-old Canadian singer laughed as she talked about “the guy doing the horse moves.” Although she couldn’t recall the name of the video straightaway, the press caught on and helped her out by yelling “Gangnam Style!”

Furtado went on to say that she’s enjoyed K-pop “over the years” and that she ran into the music frequently through her local Korean restaurant.

Furtado revealed that she actually wanted Big Bang’s T.O.P to feature in her single “Big Hoops,” which was released in April. She added that due to being “so far away in Canada,” working with K-pop stars has been nearly impossible. 

Meanwhile, Psy was mentioned on page 1 of Time magazine’s World Briefing section.

Psy to perform at Dodgers’ game

Singer Psy will bring some “Gangnam Style” to the baseball pitch on Aug. 21 when he is set to take in a game where the LA Dodgers will play the San Francisco Giants.

Psy used his Twitter to say, “Bringing Gangnam Style to Giants game this evening!” The post was re-tweeted by the baseball club, too.

According to enews World, Psy’s hit song will be played sometime during the match on the Dodgers’ home turf.

Meanwhile, Psy seems to be making the most of his U.S. tour, exploring various career opportunities by meeting with Justin Bieber’s manager.

On Aug. 15, the K-pop singer left for America after announcing that Bieber’s manager wanted to talk to him about collaboration with the teenage heartthrob in which Bieber may release an LA adaptation of “Gangnam Style.”
