Super Junior keeps it classy at Shanghai’s Mercedes Benz Arena

Super Junior continued its “Super Show 4” world tour in Shanghai on Saturday, performing in front of some 10,000 fans at the Mercedes Benz Arena and speaking in Chinese throughout the night.

The show was packed with special effects and theatrics including the use of lasers beams and wires that propelled the band members into the air well above the stage.

It was the boy band’s second time performing at the newly-built Shanghai venue, proving once again how popular the Korean group is across the Yellow Sea.

Hit songs “Super Man,” “Beauty” and “Sorry Sorry” were included on the set list and members showed off their individual talents with piano recitals, dance-offs and solo ballads. A total of 35 songs were sung on Saturday.

Super Junior headed to China after the April 9 show in Paris that drew over 7,000 fans from across Europe. The next leg of the world tour will take the group to Indonesia on April 28.

‘Oppa Oppa’ reaches No. 2 on Oricon

“Oppa Oppa,” the newly released single by Eunhyuk and Donghae from Super Junior, has taken second place on the Oricon chart.

According to the Japanese music Web site, the single reached the No. 2 spot on Wednesday, the day that it was released.

The original song by the duo debuted in Korea on Dec. 16 and was a big hit, owing to its fun lyrics and upbeat melody. The hit song was remade for the Japanese market and given a new title before it was released on CD and DVD.

Eunhyuk and Donghae also performed the song in Japan during Super Junior’s world tour, “Super Show 4,” which wrapped up in early March.

Super Junior will go back to Japan for the tour’s finale shows on May 12 and 13 at the Tokyo Dome.

Ahead of its performances, the band will release a single in Japan entitled “Opera” on May 9. The song was released in Korea last year as part of the band’s fifth album “Mr. Simple,” and will be rerecorded in Japanese.

MBC to air SM Town concert in Japan

Girl’s Generation, SHINee, Super Junior, BoA and TVXQ’s concert will be free for viewing for Korean fans on April 9.

MBC network will air the 90-minute program entitled “SM Town Live in Tokyo” for the first time, giving Korean fans the chance to watch the concert as well as some backstage interviews from the show that took place in September last year.

Artists belonging to the record label SM Entertainment dazzled fans at the Tokyo Dome last year in front of more than 150,000 audience members. The show, which was to run for two nights was extended for an additional night due to fan demand.

The MBC coverage of the event will show the backstage surroundings of the SM Town concert, featuring interviews with Taemin from SHINee and Super Junior’s Sungmin, among others.

Meanwhile, SM Entertainment announced on April 4 that its bands are set to perform in the United States later this year.

The event, cohosted by MBC and SM Entertainment, will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim under the title “MBC Korean Music Wave in L.A.” on May 20.
The agency has hosted two world tours so far.
