T-ara’s ‘Lovey Dovey’ is too racy for children, government says

T-ara’s super-popular music video for “Lovey Dovey” has been deemed harmful to teenagers by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, according to a ruling yesterday.

T-ara’s film clip, which features actor Cha Seung-won, will now be banned from airing on television before 10 p.m. Albums featuring the song will be required to feature a sticker that prohibits purchase by those under 19 years of age.

The ministry said it made the decision because the video promoted violence and made references to drugs.

Other artists were also subject to similar rulings on the same day, seeing sale of their work restricted as well. Hip-hop artist Defconn was targeted by the agency as well as the song “Yet Another Day” from the musical “Next to Normal.”

“Lovey Dovey” was released in January of this year and has topped various charts in Korea as well as in Japan, having come in at the third spot on the Oricon singles chart.

2PM’s Nichkhun is ‘Kerd of the Year’

Nichkhun of 2PM won the Most Influential Person prize at Thailand’s Kerd Awards on Saturday, and he quickly thanked his fans for their ongoing support. The boy band member, who is of Thai descent, is immensely popular in Thailand and has won a number of awards there.

This time, fans selected him as “Kerd of the Year” by voting on social networking sites and on their cell phones.

“I thought it was an honor just to be nominated for the awards, but to win the first prize .?.?. it’s like a dream. I will keep striving to become the best person that I can be for you all,” Nichkhun said at the awards show.

Following his appearance at the ceremony, he also took to his Twitter account. “Thanks to everyone for their moral support; this award means so much to me,” he said.

The Kerd Awards is a high-profile ceremony in Thailand that recognizes top stars for their efforts in seven categories, including music and comedy. The show is led by popular entertainer and local television host Woody.

KARA member’s chin in the spotlight

Though plastic surgery has become almost routine for many Korean celebrities, some netizens still have tempers when they think their favorite stars have gone under the knife.

KARA’s Han Seung-yeon is the latest star to fall under their scrutiny, and her seemingly altered face shape has drawn much attention in recent days.

Netizens are comparing images of the star from 2009 to those taken during her latest television appearances, and to many, the difference is obvious.

“From chubby face to V line” is the title of one post that is making rounds online. It shows present-day Han with a visibly pointy chin set in contrast to a photo from 2009 that highlights her rounder jaw line.

“Her chin is way too pointy now,” said one disgruntled netizen.

Han is not without defenders who say that the singer has simply lost some baby fat. But, for the most part, netizens remain undeterred.

“It can’t be just the weight loss. One can’t obtain a new chin by losing weight,” another comment read.

Beast boys to show off bodies in ads

Members of boy band Beast will have yet another opportunity to show off their toned bodies to fans, this time as representatives of the European fitness program bodyART.

The fitness company said that Beast’s signature look fits perfectly with the way it hopes to promote its brand in Korea.

“To look slim yet toned is the ideal state of the body, and we believe that Beast members showcase the perfect bodies that result from our workouts,” a bodyART representative said.

The fitness program was developed in 1999 by Swiss gymnast and dancer Robert Steinbacher and is a combination of yoga, pilates, tai chi, basic dance and stretching.

The workout, used by Beast on a recent world tour, promotes weight loss and gives definition to a person’s natural silhouette, according to the company.

The program has swept through Europe and entered the U.S. market in 2010. Korea is the first Asian nation targeted by the brand.
